In 1997, Fernando Fishman, a businessman from Chile, now the head of Crystal Lagoons Corporation, the company that created this huge artificial lake, has decided to develop a tourism project of San Alfonso del Mar in Algarrobo, a small town on the central coast of Chile. The waters of the Chilean coast are cold and restless, and even dangerous (in the region, swimming is forbidden), so it was almost impossible to imagine how such a project could be successful and how it will differ from the number of existing similar facilities.
Mr. Fishman wanted to create a huge lagoon with crystal clear water, the resort to provide visitors the opportunity to swim and enjoy water sports in a warm and clean water and safe atmosphere. He made a lot of traveling the world looking for technologies that would help him turn his dream into reality. However, this technology did not exist. The only available option was to build a common pool, but very large size - but it was not technically or economically feasible in view of its high cost.
The solution, which eventually took Fernando Fishman, brought him world patent (registration number 43534) and led to the creation of a new company called Crystal Lagoons Corporation.
The technology that was developed specifically to create this pool, the result was an international patent. The crystal clear water is taken from the ocean at a depth of 35 meters. The water temperature is maintained at 26 degrees C, which is nine degrees warmer than the temperature of the ocean water in the summer. Fernando Fishman, a biochemist by profession, belongs to the concept of creating "Lagoon of unlimited size," with crystal clear water and maintenance costs that are significantly below the cost of maintaining common pool.
The company estimates that the construction cost is approximately $ 400,000 per hectare (160,000 dollars per acre), excluding the cost of associated engineering works and maintenance costs are about $ 4,000 per hectare per month ($ 1,600 per acre per month).
